What Is Prosthodontics?
Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA). Prosthodontics are dental specialists in the restoration and replacement of teeth. Extensive training and experience provide Prosthodontists with a special understanding of the dynamics of a smile, the preservation of a healthy mouth and the creation of tooth replacements. Serving as the "architect" of a dental treatment plan, Prosthodontists collaborates with general dentists, specialists and other health professionals to develop solutions to your dental and oral health concerns.
It had taken me over twenty years of practicing as a Prosthodontists to realize that what I do as a routine every day is really different than what other non prosthodontist dentists do. As most records or CD's look the same they certainly play different music. The greatest factor I have found of this difference is the layers of understanding which make up each of the small decisions which are occurring moment by moment as the days rebuilding of teeth and mouths unfolds.
Most of what I do is evaluating the current condition of your mouth, its history of how it got to be like this and what restoration has been tried before. Sometimes the key to a successful reconstruction is in understanding what the result of prior restorations has been. The alternatives to treatment are varied and must be carefully evaluated for each of my patients.
